Ethics and Compliance Partner - Eduardo Busó
Based in the USA, Eduardo was recently an executive at the General Electric Company where held a number of senior legal and compliance positions for 23 years. He started with GE in Puerto Rico as country executive and General Counsel for all GE manufacturing and commercial operations, and was responsible for government affairs, public relations, human resources, environmental and health & safety programs. He then moved to GE’s Power Systems business in New York, first as General Counsel for GE's international parts and engineering services business and later as Counsel, Americas Sales. In those roles he handled complex commercial matters in more than 30 countries spanning almost every continent and provided advice and counsel on all aspects of contracting as well as licensing, compliance, franchising (distribution), trade controls, joint ventures and competition law. His next assignment was with GE Corporate as General Counsel for GE Latin America where he served as GE’s lead corporate lawyer for the region handling local law issues, compliance, commercial strategy and managing complex litigation.
In 2000 he was appointed Chief Compliance Officer for GE Capital and subsequent to the reorganization of GE Capital, he has held Chief Compliance Officer positions at various GE Commercial Finance global businesses. Mr. Busó is an accomplished commercial negotiator and has successfully negotiated dozens of "big ticket" transactions across the globe. He has extensive experience in conducting compliance due diligence for acquisitions and major transactions. His subject matter expertise extends to many areas of compliance risk, such as money laundering ("know your customer"), privacy, bribery (FCPA), third parties and suppliers, competition and Medicare Anti-Kickback. He is an expert in all aspects of compliance program creation and management, including policy drafting, training, risk assessment and investigations. Prior to his GE experience, he was Deputy Attorney General of Puerto Rico and also held positions as a litigation and corporate associate for firms in San Juan. Mr. Busó is a frequent speaker at international conferences on the topics of compliance and international business, including OECD, Transparency International, AMCHAM, and most recently, the Society Corporate Compliance and Ethics. He is an expert in the areas of third party compliance and anti-bribery. He is a graduate of the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
